Adding Delivery Speed Options
Create delivery speed tiers like Standard, Express, and Next Day with estimated times and cost markups so customers can choose their preferred shipping speed.
What Are Delivery Speed Options?
Delivery speed options let customers choose how quickly they want their order delivered. Each speed tier has its own dispatch time, estimated delivery window, and cost. Offering multiple speeds gives customers flexibility and can increase your average order value through premium shipping upsells.
Navigating to Speed Settings
Go to Settings > Delivery and click on the delivery zone you want to add speed options to. Scroll down to the Delivery Speeds section. Speed tiers are configured per zone, so you can offer different options for domestic and international shipments.
Creating a Speed Tier
- Click Add Delivery Speed within the zone settings.
- Enter a Speed Name that will be shown to customers (e.g. “Standard”, “Express”, “Next Day”).
- Set the Dispatch Time. This is the number of working days it takes you to process and dispatch the order (e.g. “2–3 working days”). Be realistic — this time is added to the courier transit time to give the customer a total estimate.
- Set the Estimated Delivery Range. Enter a minimum and maximum number of days for courier transit (e.g. min: 3, max: 5). The customer sees this as “3–5 working days after dispatch”.
- Set the Cost for this speed tier. This can be:
- A fixed amount that replaces the zone’s base delivery cost.
- A markup that is added on top of the zone’s base delivery cost.
- Click Save to create the speed tier.
Example Speed Configuration
For a UK Mainland zone with a base delivery cost of £4.99:
| Speed Name | Dispatch Time | Delivery Estimate | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 2–3 working days | 3–5 working days | £4.99 (base) |
| Express | 1–2 working days | 1–2 working days | £8.99 (+£4.00) |
| Next Day | Same day (order before 12pm) | 1 working day | £12.99 (+£8.00) |
How Speeds Display at Checkout
During checkout, after the customer enters their delivery address, the system identifies their zone and presents the available speed options as a list of radio buttons. Each option shows:
- The speed name (e.g. “Express”).
- The estimated total delivery time (dispatch time plus transit time combined into a range).
- The delivery cost for that speed tier.
The customer selects their preferred option, and the order total updates to reflect the chosen delivery cost.
Default Speed Selection
You can mark one speed tier as the default by ticking the “Set as default” checkbox. The default speed is pre-selected for customers when they reach the delivery step. If no default is set, the first (cheapest) option is selected automatically.
Setting a mid-range option as the default can encourage customers to choose faster shipping without feeling pressured.
Reordering and Managing Speeds
Speed tiers are displayed to customers in the order they appear in your settings. Drag and drop the handle icon to reorder them. Typically, list speeds from slowest (cheapest) to fastest (most expensive).
To temporarily remove a speed option without deleting it, click the toggle to disable it. Disabled speeds are hidden from customers but retain their configuration.
